A soothing anti-inflammatory, analgesic oil used to help reduce pain and discomfort, stop the spread, and promote the healing of Acute Moist Dermatitis "Hot Spots". Helps repair any painful superficial sores.
RECCOMENDED USE – PLEASE FOLLOW THE BELOW STEPS:
1) Have your vet, groomer or experienced friend carefully clip the hair surrounding the sore; it is essential to trim away all the hair that may possibly come into contact with the sore.
2) Gently clean the sore with alcohol-free Witch Hazel, a dilute Betadine solution or cool soapy water. Allow to air dry or gently pat dry. Clean the sore 1-2 times every day. It is important to clean the sore daily to prevent infection, but cleaning more often than this may be too damaging to the tissue or painful.
3) After you have cleaned the sore and once it’s dry, apply 2-4 drops (in a thin layer) of Hot Spot Oil directly to the sore, 2-4 times a day. May temporarily stain fur and skin a light orange color.
If necessary (depending on the location), to keep pet from licking the sore, please outfit your dog with a soft-sided recovery collar or soft e-collar.

- Copaiba – Potent pain reliever (used as a replacement for NSAIDs) that provides topical pain relief, anti-inflammatory that promotes wound healing, has antimicrobial activity which is useful for a wide variety of infections; improves serious skin lesions and ulcers when applied topically.
- Sage – Clears negative energy; has antibacterial, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties that are effective for alleviating skin conditions.
- Carrot Seed – Provides antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties; scar reducing and anti-aging for the skin.
- Lavender – Powerfully relaxing anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and antiseptic agent that helps reduce the pain, swelling, irritation, and itchiness. Fights infection, helps to speed healing, promotes tissue rejuvenation.
“PATCH TEST” FIRST FOR INDIVIDUAL REACTIONS & SAFE USE: Prior to actual use, ideally before your dog experiences another Hot Spot, we recommend placing a single drop of this essential oil blend to a small area of skin such as the inside underarm or inside of the rear leg (a spot with little fur, away from the head). After application, watch for adverse reactions within the first 24-hours. Possible reactions include skin irritation, headache, nausea, respiratory complaints, or dizziness.

ADDITIONAL SUPPORTIVE CARE SUGGESTIONS
NUTRITION
One of the best and safest treatment options for dogs experiencing Hot Spots is to start immediately with a water-only fast (no food or treats) for 24-36 hours.
To break the fast, feed a small serving (1/2 fl oz per 10-lb of body weight) of cultured probiotic rich foods such as salt-free fermented organic green veggies or cabbage, raw milk kefir or yogurt.
An hour or so later, follow with a small meal (1/2 their usual amount) of whitefish such as SFRAW Whitefish Bone Grind, Halibut or Cod fillets. Feed a diet of raw, frozen whitefish (cod or halibut) only for 2-3 days or until the Hot Spot is fully resolved. Do not feed a diet of exclusively whitefish fillets long-term, this is to be fed for a few days/weeks only as an acute treatment.
Whitefish (cod or halibut) is the ideal choice for cooling/healing Hot Spots, but if your dog cannot tolerate cod or halibut, you may choose lean cuts of pasture-raised or wild pork that has been pre-frozen for safety (for a minimum of 3 weeks) as an alternative. Adding SFRAW Pork Grind would be an excellent option, but you may also choose ground or stew meat, or pieces of pork leg meat.
Once your dog’s Hot Spot is mostly healed, you can begin to move away from the Whitefish or Pork only diet, you can transition to SFRAW Grinds (Pork, Rabbit or Duck) or just start adding in a small amount of Iberico Pasture-raised Pork Fat which is excellent for skin conditions.
Additional “cooling” and skin healing ingredients and foods to consider adding in as you re-build the diet/menu over a 3-4 week period include: Oysters, SFRAW Veggie Mix, Collagen (from pasture-raised pork ideally, but grass-finished beef and marine collagen are alternative options), Raw Yogurt/Kefir, Lightly cooked pasture-raised Egg Whites (heated in coconut oil, tallow or ghee), Cooked/cooled organic Pearled Barley (tiny amount – just a tsp or Tbs per serving for each meal), SFRAW Pork Grind/Formula, SFRAW Rabbit Grind/Formula, and SFRAW Duck Grind/Formula.
Adding Pork or Duck Bone Broth ice cubes to meals will aid in the healing process.
Avoid “warming” foods including: Lamb, Chicken, Venison, Bison, Elk, and Salmon.
Beef, Turkey, and Quail are all “neutral” energetically and can be added in rotation, and fed along with the cooling foods long-term.
HOMEOPATHY
In addition to the use of our Hot Spot Oil, dogs typically respond very quickly when given a well-chosen homeopathic remedy.
It is important to choose a SINGLE homoeopathic remedy. The remedy you choose will depend on the appearance of the hot spot and the behavior of your dog. Below is a list of some of the most commonly used remedies for Hot Spots.
Choose ONE remedy that best matches your dog's symptoms. Do not follow the directions on the remedy bottle. Give a single dose (1-2 pellets) of the 30C potency, just one time. Give the dose 15 minutes before or 2-hours after food or treats on a "natural mouth". Before bed is a nice time to give remedies. Your dog does not need to swallow the pellets; the dose just needs to be dissolved under their lip or, if crushed, the crushed pellet can simply touch the mucous membranes (tongue/gums and lips). Alternatively, you can drop the pellet in 1 tsp of dairy raw milk, cream, butter, or plain yogurt and allow your dog to lick this up. Dairy is the only food that can be consumed when giving remedies without interfering with or counteracting the remedy.
If the remedy you choose helps, do not repeat the dose until the symptoms start to return. Repeat, as needed, but do not repeat the remedy more than 4-6 doses in total.
If the first remedy you choose doesn't help, you may try one other remedy to follow, but please do not combine remedies together or try more than two different remedies.
Aconite: Use for animals who's most prominent symptom is that they are very anxious or fearful and restless during the development of the sore.
Apis: Sores with an angry, itchy, violent onset. The area is sensitive to touch, shiny and swollen with a red or white appearance (like a bee sting). These dogs will tend to be thirstless.
Belladonna: Hot spots that appear very suddenly "out of nowhere". The skin will become bright red, hot and even glistening. The animal will appear restless and irritated, perhaps with dilated pupils or accelerated pulse, and cannot tolerate external heat.
Graphites: This is the remedy to use when the sore oozes a sticky, honey like discharge. The itch and discharge will be worse with warmth and surrounding coat may feel greasy. The hot spot or edges of the sore will have a cracked appearance. Often these animals are overweight.
Hepar sulph: This is a commonly used remedy for hot spots and works well for many cases. These sores will be moist with a yellowish green discharge and a strong unpleasant smell. The sore is very painful and this can make the animal aggressive towards anyone attempting to touch the sore. Heat will make the condition better.
Mercurius: Ulcerated sores with a yellow or greenish moist discharge and a yellow scab with bleeding. Pimples may appear. Lymph nodes might be swollen. They may be irritable. Diarrhea or salivation may accompany this episode.
Nitric Acid: Ulcerated sores that look like raw flesh. They bleed easily and are very painful. Cold aggravates and warm applications alleviate these sores. Irritability is common.
Rhus tox: A red and very itchy rash (more like a rash than a sore) with a pimpled appearance and swollen hardened skin. The sore is more itchy than painful. The sore can become dry and sclay with thickened skin. The animal is restless and better when moving and walking about, preferring warmth. Cold water can worsen the itch.
