DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, WE ARE NOT TEACHING CLASSES UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
SFRAW CLASSES & WORKSHOPS
We are limiting our core classes (workshops for raw feeding puppies, dogs & cats) to one class each year and a selection from our other classes/workshops - see below. Space is limited. Class sizes are intimate by design; allowing for meaningful Q&A during the workshop and for participants to receive one-on-one guidance and instruction. All classes are taught by Kasie Maxwell, SFRAW Founder & Consultant with occasional Special Guests on Sundays from 9:00am-11:00/11:30am at SFRAW (250 Napoleon Street, San Francisco, CA 94124).
"CORE" SFRAW WORKSHOPS
RAW FEEDING WORKSHOP FOR PUPPIES Your puppy's first year is a critical period of development that will significantly influence and determine the outcome of their mental, behavioral and physical health for the rest of their lives. During this crucial first year, the nutrition, handling, and rearing choices that you make will have a lasting outcome. The first part of this workshop will provide a brief overview of basic Natural Rearing principles and suggestions for setting your puppy up for success from a holistic perspective. The second part of our workshop provides a hands-on experience where we show you how to put together a sample menu/diet and provide ideal nutrition for your puppy from weaning through the first 12-months of age. While making food, we will answer all of your general questions, discuss transitioning your puppy to raw, and preparing raw diets on a practical level. You will pick-up practical tips and tricks from seasoned raw feeders on how to feed fresh foods properly and how to manage every-day feeding with ease. Participants will prepare a meal that they can take home to feed their puppy. The third part of this workshop is a guided tour of SFRAW where we will help identify specific products that are particularly well-suited for puppies during that first year of life (including recreational chews, supplements and fresh food ingredients). Suggested shopping lists will be provided. Participants are welcome to make purchases after class. Non-member participants are offered a one-time referral shopping discount (30% off/member pricing level) for any purchases made that day. Space is limited to 10 participants (food prep stations will be set-up with two people per station). Cost for the seminar includes food/ingredients, packaging and supplies involved in making the food you'll take home. Please let us know in advance if your pet has any food allergies or intolerances so we will have ingredients that will work for your pet ready for you.
TOP TEN HERBS In this class, we will review which herbs you should keep handy at home and how to use them safely for your dogs and cats. We'll discuss some of our favorite herbs that can be used for first aid, healing and nutrition with a demonstration on how to prepare one of the remedies featured. Participants will go home with a sample of the remedy made during the demonstration.
NATURALLY SAFE SEMINAR: Raw Feeding Safely & Natural First Aid Part One: Review common safety concerns and potential issues with feeding a fresh foods diet. Part Two: Veterinary demonstration and presentation on Natural First Aid techniques and first-aid home remedies for dogs and cats. Cost for the seminar includes one SFRAW Basic Natural First Aid kits for each participant (FREE). Educational with demonstrations; not a hands-on workshop.
NEW CLASSES & WORKSHOPS to be added ASAP.
Diet Options: Review of Popular DIY Fresh Food Diets
Which option will you choose? With so many options and conflicting theories/approaches to fresh food diets, it can be overwhelming and confusing to decide. In this class, we explore and compare some of the most popular choices available to you as a fresh food feeder to help you make a full assessment in determining what makes the most sense for your animals currently. Diets Juliette di Bairclay Levy (published in 1955) to Dr. Pitcairn (published in 1983 - where Kasie started) on through to Wendy Volhard, Ian Billinghurst, Kymythy Schultze, Tom Lonsdale, Steve Brown, Lew Olson and others. In addition to the different published diets, we'll review different methods of feeding including: adhering to strict AAFCO/NRC guidelines using spreadsheets or calculators, "balance over time" menus, prey model, "gorge and fast", home-cooking, TCM menus, ketogenic, and Rotational Mono Feeding (RMF) plans. Educational & instructional class only with plenty of Q&A; attendees will not prepare meals or take home food from this class.
Raw Foundations: Raw Meaty Bones & Offal
In this class, we break down two extremely important food categories for DIY raw feeding: Raw Meaty Bones (RMB) and offal/organs. Learn how to incorporate these essential foods into the diet in a way that works best for your unique circumstances/animals. How to choose the best raw meaty bones; what the different offal/organs provide nutritionally and how to use them to naturally balance common health concerns. Includes a guided bones and organs "walk through" tour, while we "hunt" for examples of these different foods to learn about the various options available to you and assess which might be best to try (or best to avoid) for animals under your care. Educational & instructional class only with plenty of Q&A; attendees will not prepare meals or take home food from this class.
