We source our Ostrich from our own family farm in New Jersey, as well as other family-owned farms through the United States.
Why is Ostrich the healthiest alternative to Beef? Ostriches consume 1/3 of the amount of water than Beef cattle. Roughly three times more feed is required to raise one pound of Beef than one pound of Ostrich meat. Ostrich use 1/50 of the land that Grass-fed Beef requires and emit significantly less methane than beef, pork or sheep. Ostriches contribute 1/10 of the greenhouse gases per pound than that produced by beef. Boasting more health benefits than skinless chicken breast and turkey.

We are pioneers in healthy and sustainable alternatives to conventional red meat. Fossil Farms specializes in providing the highest quality farm raised game, game birds, exotic meats and all natural meats in the country.
Our standard of animal husbandry has focused on these core principles since 1997, when our founding farm was established:
Animals will be raised outdoors on pasture.
Animals will be raised without any use of growth hormones, subtherapeutic antibiotics or steroids.
Animals will be fed a diet of natural forage and when necessary, a blend of all natural vegetarian grains.
Animals will be raised in a manner that supports the well-being of the animal and the sustenance of the environment in which they are raised.
As our product line expanded into other species beyond Ostrich, we learned that what is suitable and sustainable for raising Ostrich does not always correlate to other animals. Our standards grew with this knowledge.
The core of our standards remains, but we account for some modifications that are suitable for specific species. For example: raising ducks on open pasture is not an effective means of producing high quality, consistent product year-round. It also does not afford the animals the protection they deserve from harsh weather elements and predators.
Fossil Farms' partnerships with farms and ranchers requires extensive research in animal raising practices and we visit each of our producers to ensure that our standards are maintained. We, also, continually develop and enhance these standards to improve the sustainability, environmental impact and quality of our products.
