GREY SEA SALT
The «Sel Marin» or Grey Sea Salt, available coarse or ground, is a chef’ most valuable cooking salt. The Grey Sea Salt is harvested in the early summer mornings from the bottom of our clay lined salt marches. The clay lining our salt beds, unique to the Island of Ré, is rich in natural mineral nutrients. Our traditional method of cultivation and harvesting infuses the salt with this clay, which gives its light grey color and an abundance of calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, silica, hybride, a unique antioxidant, and traces of natural iodine. Since 1986, our determination is total to safeguard the salt marshes of the island of Ré.
The Ile de Ré is located on the Atlantic coast opposite La Rochelle to which it is connected by a bridge 3 km. With an exceptional climate, it enjoys a microclimate all year.
