 Smells and TASTES delicious!

The selection of produce used in our Veggie Mix is tremendous and varies week by week. We choose an abundant variety of blends of baby lettuces, winter greens, arugula, cruciferous vegetables (cabbages, cauliflower, broccoli), celery, fennel, dandelion, sunflower sprouts, broccoli sprouts, herbs such as parsley, dill, oregano, thyme/marjoram, plus ginger or turmeric, plus rotational selections of radish/roots in the winter/fall, zucchini/low-glycemic specialties in the spring/summer. We choose the best produce possible from what is seasonally available on any given day.

PREBIOTICS, ANTIOXIDANTS, MINERALS & MORE! Greens, brassicas, burdock root (awesome liver cleaner/detoxifier) and sunchokes "Jerusalem artichoke" (the fresh roots of a type of sunflower native to North America); sunflower greens/sprouts and broccoli sprouts. It's exceptional to find a locally produced organic sunchokes and burdock root and we don't know of anyone else adding such wonderful fresh raw organic superfood ingredients to their raw food products.

BROCCOLI SPROUTS contain the compound called sulforaphane; and is the most potent source having 10x the abundance compared to broccoli. Sulforaphane has captivated the minds of scientists all over the world with institutes such as John Hopkins University being the flag bearer of cutting-edge research. The benefits of this compound are so immense that in the past 30 years some 3,000 research publications have been produced on sulforaphane. The list of conditions which have benefitted from Sulforaphane administration in research includes: Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease, Cancer (Prostate, Breast, Skin, Stomach), Chronic Inflammation, Alzheimer’s/Cognitive Impairment, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Skin/Dermal Conditions, Ageing, Muscular DystrophyAutism, Autoimmune Diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis and Rheumatoid ArthritisSchizophrenia, Digestive Issues. Sulforaphane has such wide-reaching health benefits because it activates the NRF2 pathway. The NRF2 pathway is a regulator of about 200 different kinds of genes including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory genes. This pathway is activated in fighting against a lot of harmful infections, diseases and autoimmune problems. To date, sulforaphane is the most potent, naturally occurring compound to have ever been discovered that triggers this pathway and improves the ability of our cells to fight off various infections.

CULINARY HERBS contain an array of healing properties and work to support cleansing and detoxification, reduce inflammation, support liver function and aid in the clearance of heavy metals from the body. For example:

  • PARSLEY contains vitamin K, essential for proper blood clotting and bone health, and works to support liver cleansing.
  • OREGANO is most known for its antibacterial and antifungal properties, to be effective against food-borne illnesses, common colds, flus and respiratory infections.
  • GINGER contains gingerol, a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties; and appears to have protective effects against cancer, age-related damage to the brain, infections from harmful bacteria and viruses. It is known to be beneficial for reliving symptoms of indigestion and related digestive discomforts.
  • BURDOCK has been used as food and medicine for centuries in various ways, including as a diuretic to aid digestion. It contains a variety of nutrients such as antioxidants and inulin fiber, known to help with conditions like skin disorders (it’s a favorite of ours for animals suffering from acute moist dermatitis “hot spots”), inflammation, digestion, and liver health.
  • NETTLE is high in polyphenols (antioxidants) and can aid the body in flushing harmful bacteria from the urinary tract. It may also reduce the inflammation and pain association with osteoarthritis.

MICROBIOME SUPPORT: FEED & DIVERSIFY BENEFICIAL BACTERIA

This is food for your animal’s microbiome, primarily. A little goes a long way – don’t overdo it! If veggies are enjoyed and well-tolerated by your animal, they will only need a very small amount to feed all those “good bugs” and protect them from disease! Adding more is not better when it comes to veggies for dogs/cats – they have ZERO biological or nutritional requirement for veggies. They’re optional. Indeed, feeding too much veggie only takes away from the food they are biologically adapted to best digest and can actually derive nutrients from (meat & organs).

A healthy gut microflora (your internal garden) supports a healthy immune system, neurological function, lowers inflammation in the body and promotes wellness overall.

Many things interfere with a healthy intestinal microbiome community, including antibiotics, medical procedures, pesticides (such as flea/tick/heartworm drugs), surgeries, injuries, pain medications, vaccinations, poor dietary choices (refined carbohydrates, in particular, but also non-organic foods, processed diets, carcinogen containing foods, fats subjected to high heat, and foods tainted with glyphosate), and even physical or emotional stress. Including prebiotic foods such as sunchoke, dandelion, burdock, asparagus, and others regularly in the diet supports beneficial intestinal bacteria, with a corresponding decrease in bacteria known to be pathogenic and putrefactive.

A healthy intestinal microbiome community enhances nutrient absorption, improves blood sugar control, cancer cell activity and insulin normalization, and has anti-bacterial and anti-tumor actions via the production of butyrate in the gut. Butyrate is a short-chain fatty acid synthesized from non-absorbed carbohydrate by colonic microbiota.

INULIN is a prebiotic fiber that specifically supports (“feeds”) friendly gut bacteria like the bifidobacteria group. Feeding the beneficial bacteria allows these species to flourish and effectively crowd out potentially harmful bacteria species which protects your animals against bacterial dysbiosis and infections. Developing a diversity of beneficial bacteria in the gut has innumerable benefits from mood, reducing anxiety, improving cognitive function, to supporting a healthy and strong immune system, resistance to autoimmune diseases (such as allergies and thyroid diseases), and normalizing bowel function.

DANDELION is a true superfood - prized for being a liver/kidney cleansing food, and digestive aid that is a super nutritious source of vitamins and minerals such as potassium that is among those foods highest in inulin (sunchoke is another!) It also helps the liver remove toxins more efficiently, has powerful liver-protecting properties, and prevents urinary tract infections. Dandelion greens also contain the flavonoid zeaxanthin, as well as the carotenoid lutein, both of which may help shield the retina from ultraviolet rays and reduce the risk for eye damage. The carotenoids alpha-carotene and beta-cryptoxanthin are present in dandelion greens as well — these compounds have been found to help lower the risk of lung and mouth cancers.

The amazing benefits provided by all these carefully selected ingredients are really cool! We're super happy to include these humble superfoods in our SFRAW Veggie Mixes, SFRAW Vitality and SFRAW Formulas. This is just one of the MANY reasons why SFRAW foods are, well, the BEST -- indeed, we know and witness that our food is nutritionally superior and unique when compared to other prepared raw diets. We're pretty sure this is one of the reasons why we hear and see all the time how switching to SFRAW foods can result in significant improvements in your animal's health overall.

FEEDING: This is an entirely optional supplement that provides additional antioxidants, fiber, enzymes, vitamins and minerals. Offer VEGGIE MIX to your pet to freely consume on their own (not mixed in) as a side serving, offering to your pet alone “as is” or plated with other foods on a platter. It is important to first determine that they enjoy and tolerate VEGGIE MIX (do not have a negative reaction or digestive issues). Please do not mix it in to their meals until after you have verified and tested that they truly enjoy eating them. There’s no reason to force your animal to eat veggies; and doing so may even be harmful for specific individuals. So, add as enjoyed by your pet, but don’t force it. We recommend an ideal of 5-12.5% but to never exceed 20% of your pet's total diet.

HANDLING: KEEP FROZEN UNTIL USE. Defrost under 40 degrees (do not use oven or microwave); feed or refreeze within 2 days.
